Investigating the moderating effect of information sources on cruise tourist behaviour in a port of call
2015
The aim of the study is to examine how destination knowledge acquired by cruisers through different information sources (online versus others) can moderate destination image formation and the relationship of image–satisfaction–behavioural intentions in a port of call. A multiple group analysis with partial least square method was carried out using data collected from a major tourism destination in Spain: Valencia. The findings revealed knowledge acquired through different information sources is a moderator of the image–satisfaction and satisfaction–behavioural intention relationships. The destination image formation is also significantly different from one group to the other. The findings o…
Relationships among residents' image, evaluation of the stay and post-purchase behaviour
2005
Scholars have approached the analysis of the host community from a supply perspective rather than a demand one. This paper focuses on the study of residents when acting as tourists in their own region. In this sense, the present work aims to fill the gap existing in the literature about residents' tourist behaviour, analysing the influence of the image of their province on their evaluation of their travel experience and their future behaviour intentions. To accomplish this objective, a path analysis is carried out to test jointly the set of relationships among image, perceived quality, satisfaction, intention to return and willingness to recommend.
Patrimonio culturale e tecnologia: un incontro ancora da valorizzare
2020
Today, many factors are driving cultural institutions to adopt digitization strategies. For some of them, as organizations in charge of monument care, historical or archaeological museums and heritage parks, this might be critical. Indeed, making available off-site experiences of heritage places, for instance by augmented reality and/or video games, fuels polyvalent and potentially contradictory dynamics. They lay at the intersection of three main dimensions: understanding how cultural heritage and technology interact; which attitudes people in charge of cultural heritage bear, and how tourist destinations are built and promoted. The paper combines information about the evolution of the lit…
Automated Content Analysis of Destination Image: a Case Study
2020
Automated content analysis has become one of the most used approaches to extract “hidden” dimensions from text corpora over the last years. One of the data analysis techniques belonging to this approach is topic modeling, which can be fruitfully used to analyse complex phenomena like tourist destination image. With this aim in mind, this paper discusses the use of topic modeling to identify the main components of the image of cruise holidays spread through a specific type of visual text, i.e. the Television commercial. In order to achieve this goal, the paper presents the methodology and main results of a study carried out over a sample of TV commercials, which have recently been broadcast …

Guided Tour Influence on Cruise Tourist Experience in a Port of Call: An eWOM and Questionnaire-Based Approach
2016
The study aims at exploring the importance of guided tours in cruise tourists experience while visiting a port of call and analyzing qualitative (electronic word of mouth from Tripadvisor) and quantitative (personal interviews with tourists) data. The results obtained from the electronic word of mouth analysis suggest that taking a guided tour is a highly satisfactory and sentimentally positive experience for the cruise tourist. Moreover, the empirical findings revealed that taking a guided tour has a moderating effect on (1) the interaction between destination image–satisfaction, (2) the satisfaction–loyalty causal relationship and (3) the destination image formation process regarding the …
L'immagine di una destinazione turistica in una prospettiva attribute-based. Risultati di un'indagine empirica
2008
Any territory today has to communicate in order to render visible to the outside world what it is, what it knows how to do, its qualities and its value in order to improve its image, which represents one of the fundamental components of the intangible patrimony of a destination. In the paste, the tourist marketing literature has concentrated on the image perceived by travellers. Very limited, instead, have been studies on the image perceived by tourist intermediaries, who constitute an important category of mediation in the diffusion of the image of a territory and take on a remarkable role in the development of tourist destinations. The main objective of the present study is to analyze the…
Film Tourism – Locations Are the New Stars
2009
There once was a time when the actual attraction of a movie lied in the capability of the celluloid to let the spectators escape from the everyday, a spare time to leave the life-world environment behind and live the life of a thrilling armchair traveller. Foreign countries and remote regions could easily be mapped and visited without travelling to the actual location. Considering that “the modern world is very much a ‘seen’ phenomenon“ (Jenks 1995:2), one has to come to the assumption that present day travelling and watching movies are somehow connected. Tourism originally was perceived as visitors travelling, whether within their own country or internationally, for pleasure and relaxation…
Destination appeal through digitalized comments
2019
Abstract Brand choice remains under review in the context of service provision. Drawing on schema theory and persuasion theory, this study tests how, in online reviews, valence (positive vs. negative), content style (general vs. specific), and destination familiarity interact and influence digital destination image (DDI) and intention to visit a tourist destination (TD). We run a 2 × 2 × 2 experimental design using a sample of 1055 TripAdvisor users. Our findings suggest that: (i) Positive (vs. negative) online reviews, specific (vs. general) online reviews, and familiarity with a destination enhance DDI and intention to visit a TD; (ii) the impact of the valence of the review on DDI and in…
